<p>This programme assign a local student as a mentor or buddy to welcome newly arrived overseas students to help them with the immediate guidance and assistance for settling down in a new environment. The buddies are student volunteers who are chosen by the OIA through a screening process. </p> <p>The main aims of this Program are: </p> <ul> <li>To help all international students adapt to the campus life</li> <li>To make new friends and understand local culture </li> </ul> <p><strong>How does it work</strong><br /> OIA tries to select local student volunteers and match them with international students based on their shared interests i.e. language, academic discipline or specific student requests.<br /> The buddies contact the international students before their arrival on campus (usually through social media)</p> <p>A buddy is assigned for a few weeks (2-4) to their matched international students to show them around and also assist them with new-student tasks (such as banking, registration for classes) as well as with local information on food, shopping, transportation, banks, mobile phone services, resident life, student clubs and students services on campus, etc.</p> <p> </p>
